Andrea Time!

I saw Andrea's card today and really liked it! So much, I used it as a sketch for mine.  Made a couple of changes but only because I didn't have the same supplies she did.  She used the beautiful Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack in Brights.  It is on my very long wish list for the new catalog.  Anyway, I thought, after stampin the bird cage... I'll use newspaper  :)  So, I did!  First time using newspaper on a card and I might do that again!  I also didn't add a button as I needed my card to be postal friendly.  I also used a coloured fiber as the twine made my card kinda blah and the orange fiber gave it a kick kinda like Cajun spices kick up your chicken  :)  So, hope you enjoy this simple one!

Supplies: STamp set by SU! Aviary (120462) and Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370)
Ink: Marina Mist & Basic Black
Papers: Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Whisper White and Newspaper - LDS Church News  :)
Accessories: Fibers from CTMH, Swiss Dot Cuttle Bug Folder, Big Shot (113439), Scallop Edge Border Punch ( 119882)

Have a wonderful Sunday tomorrow!

Blog Vacation

I have been gone for the last 2 weeks and haven't been able to make cards or blog.  That's my excuse this time for the pause since my last post  :) We went to Lake Powell and I am sharing just a few shots.

Also wanted to share a card I made before I left. Simply adhered a panel of pattern paper on cardstock. Embossed sentiment on vellum.
Supplies: SU! Stamp set Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370)
Papers: Basic gray, Textured Black, My Minds Eyes and Vellum.

Polka Dots and Scrunched Flowers

Pretty simple card.  Last one we'll make at the Open House tonight.  I dyed the flower.  I put a dozen ink drops in a sandwich bag along with a little bit of water (used the spray bottle and did 2 sprays).  Let it dry and scrunch the flowers together leaving the bottom one intact.  I used 5 flowers.  Pin together with a brad and adhere a button on top.  Many crafters have made these flowers so it is hard to know who to give proper credit for these.   Anyway, hope you like it!

Supplies: Dot Dot Dot (page 140, 115332) and Teeny Tiny Wishes ( page 157, 115370)
Ink: Cherry Cobler
Paper: pages from an old book, Cherry Cobler, Whisper White.
Accessories: Button, Thread, 5/8" Organza Ribbon (114319), 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punch ( 119854), Versamark, White Embossing Powder and Pop Dots.

Spotlighting Tami White

Tami has a great blog and has so many beautiful cards with SU! products.  I needed an idea for my open house tomorrow.  This card inspired mine.  I made a couple of chages.  Not because they needed to be made; her card is beautiful.  But I wanted to show off the new Marina Mist colour and thought it might be fun to try a sunset.  I used watercolour pencils instead of watercolour crayons.  They both work very well with watercolour paper.  I am adding her blog on my list.  Go check it out!!

Supplies: Stam Set by SU! Tropical Pary ( Summer mini- 120081)
Papers: Marina Mist, Very Vanilla and Watercolour Paper.
Accessories: Watercolour Pencils (101879), Pop Dots, Aqua Painter (103954)

Heather Time and a Thrift Store Find!!

Time for my frequent inspired cards by Heather Pulvirenti.  What mostly inspired me was the embossing on the gray cardstock.  That's all it took!!  Hoping you can see the glitter well but it was hard to catch with my camera.  I used this super sweet embossing powder by American craft that has glitter in it!  It is just wonderful!!  Here's the card that inspired mine!  She did such a fabulous job with hers!!

Supplies: Stamp set by SU! Chic Boutique (113744),
Papers: Basic Gray, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White.
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: American Craft Embossing Powder, 5/8 Organza Ribbon (114319), Scallop Edge Border Punch (119882).

I also wanted to share an awesome find at the thrift store on Friday.  I found this gorgeous embossed Norman Rockwell print with the frame (solid oak) for an amazing $1.50!!!  It is hard to show the embossing of the image with the camera but it is beautiful!!

Spotlighting Susan Raihala & WT278

I have enjoyed visiting Susan's blog for a long time now and finally getting a chance to spotlight her.  She is the queen of clean & simple cards.  There are many queens in that kingdom  :)  Here's the card that inspired mine.  In participating in the WT278 challenge at SCS, we were asked to use the colour yellow.  Not a colour I often use but thought this might work well for this card.  I even got my old deco scissors out for this!!  Adding Susan's blog on my list; go check it out!

Supplies: Stamp sentiment by SU! Pun Fun (115054)
Papers: So Saffron, Boardwalk by We R  Memory Makers, scrap of light gray cardstock (unknown origin).
Ink: Black
Accessories: Whale Punch by Martha Stewart, Provo Craft Scissors and Pop Dots.

Jen Time!

It has been a cold and rainy day today.  You read right, I said cold.  Yes, in the dead of July, we had barely 50 F.  I checked Yellowknife's weather and it was warmer there  :)  I was able to take this shot later tonight as the rain stopped for a short while.

Anyhoo, saw this card that Jen made and went to work.  I had a bit of ink on my fingers and got the little circle dirty, so I went ahead and sponged all around to hide my mess.  Hope you like it!

Supplies:  Stamp set by SU! Because I care (hostess set, level 1)
Papers: Very Vanilla, Soft Suede and Crumb Cake.
Ink: Soft Suede
Accessories: Pop Dots, Piercing Tool (116631) & Mat (105826), Linen Thread( 104199), 1 3/8" Large Circle Punch ( 119860), Stamping  Sponge (101610) and Button (from my stash).

I love this new hostess set from the new catalog. I wish my hydrangeas looked better. They are not easy flowers to grow when all around me is clay. Colorado clay. Other flowers grow well though. I'll share a few from my backyard.

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy day!!

CC275 & CAS71

I was so surprised to get Betty's email on Sunday asking me to participate in the colour challenge at SCS this week.  Most of my cards follow a sketch or I CASE someone else's work.  So, when she asked, I wasn't sure what to say!!   Well, I accepted and was so excited about this opportunity.

I didn't CASE anyone or folow a sketch this time.  The colours for the challenge are Mellow Moss, Barely Banana and Real Red.  There was an extra challenge as well: to decorate a frame with anything like pearls, stitching or stickles.  So I chose these cute heart pearls from Hero Arts.

And I almost forgot.  The CAS challenge at SCS was to have a "flying" theme.  Those little hearts look like they're flying to me  :)

Anyway, this is going to a friend who suffers from depression.  Hoping to lift up her spirit.

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy day!

Supplies: Stamp set by SU! A Happy Heart
Papers: Barely Banana, Mellow Moss, Real Red and Whisper White.
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Nestabilities, Heart Pearls by Hero Arts, Real Red Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon. Cuttle Bug Swiss Dots, Corner Rounder Punch and Pop Dots.

SC284

Here is my take on this week's sketch at SCS .  I used a friend of mine's digital kit.  It is called Corbin's Circus by Heather Sitarzewski.  So cute and fun.  Life has been a bit crazy this week with my clothes dryer quit on us.  Thanks to a sweet neighbour for helping out!

Tessa Time

I pretty much copied her card but had to use a couple of different colours but they are so very close; hard to tell the difference.  I just loved how fun and clever her card was.  And the Crystal Effect is a nice detail she added.  I didn't have a small paper clip so I didn't put one on the card.  My sentiment is in French as I needed that  :)

Spotlighting Karen Giron (again)

Long time since my last post.  Life sure gets in the way of craftiness  :)  So, here's a link to Karen's beautiful card.  I had to use Bashful Blue since I have very little of the Cool Caribbean cardstock  left.  I think it still works.  Karen's blog is already on my blog list so go check it out if you haven't in a while.

CAS63 & Kristina's One Layer Card Challenge

I made this card with these 2 challenges in mind:  CAS63 and Kristina's .
I used a set that is retired but great to use for a quick birthday card.  I scored the two lines with my scoring blade.  Pretty simple.  I needed a masculine birthday card, with no ribbons or anything "froufrou".  Unofficial French word for fancy  :)

Recipe: Stamp set by SU! Let's Party (retired)
Paper: Kraft
Ink: Old Olive, Night of Navy and Chocolate Chip.
Accessories: Scoring Blade

Birgit Time again!

I love this card   she posted today on SCS.  I had to change a few things since I don't have the same stamps or butterfly die cut.  So, I hope you like my version too.  I need to apologize for the poor quality of the photo.  Because it is late, I have no natural light.  The Mellow Moss almost looks brown!  Oh well!
  1. My card base is 4 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches.
  2. Cut out your butterfly shape and use the template as you stamp your image and colour on the inside.  I used a sponge and ink pads.
  3. Remove you template when you are done with the colouring and stamping.
  4. Use piercing tool and pierce around the butterfly.
  5. Add sentiment and 3 small pearls or dots.
Recipe: Stamp sets by SU! Simply Said (115066) and Kind & Caring Thoughts (Hostess Level 3).
Papers: Basic Black & Bazzill White.
Ink: Mellow Moss, Bermuda Bay and Basic Black.
Accessories: Piercing Tool ( 116631) & Mat (105826), Black Dots by Paper Studio, Sponges.

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy day!

FTL42

Another quick & easy sketch to follow.  This sketch was posted in May of 2009 but so what?  It fit perfectly ( *I think* ) with this cute stamp.

Thanks to everyone who has been so kind about my issues with not being very creative and needing to copy or follow a sketch.  It's nice to see I'm not the only one.  I'll leave it at that.

Ink: Basic Black.

I received an interesting email the other day.  This stamper was letting me know how lame she thinks I am.  Reason is I almost always use other people's ideas.  So, I guess I feel I need to defend myself and thought it is likely many other people feel the same.  So, here are a few thoughts:

1- As nicely as I can say this... if you don't like me or my blog, don't check it out.  Very simple.
2- Some people are very left brainy and not creative at all.  That would be me.
3- I love to stamp but I either need a sketch to get me started or I copy someone else's ideas.  I always give credit where credit is due and hope the stampers I spotlight will feel honoured as that is how it is meant to be.
4- The reason I started this blog is so that I hoped I could inspire someone else to make cards.  That's it!
5- I have no interests in entering contests in the hopes of winning anything.  It wouldn't be OK to enter a contest with a card I copied from someone else.  I've never done that and I never will.
6- Wishing a happy day to everyone  :)

Spotlight on Andrea Walford

Occasionally, someone will ask how I choose the person I spotlight.  I wish I could tell you that I am very organized and that I have a system.  But I am not well organized and I really don't have  system.  I find most of my inspiration from SCS and that often leads me to awesome stampers' blogs.  I see a card I really like and CASE it or change the colours or a few elements as I might be missing a few items from the original card.  Other times, I like a card but think it might be fun to "reproduce" it with SU! products I already have on hands.  So, no rhyme or reason.  I just appreciate stampers sharing their work as I would be in big trouble left to myself, trying to come up with beautiful cards.  I always try to give credit where credit is due. And I hope that stampers I spotlight are happy that their work inspired me.

With that, on with today's spotlight.  Andrea is another fellow Canadian.  I have been following her blog for a couple of years now.  She has fun tutorials and videos of many of her cards.  I am adding a link to her blog on my list.  Go check it out!

Making a Tulip with the Bird Punch

I have seen a lot of stampers use the Bird Punch and make a tulip.  Therefore, it is difficult to know who to credit for this idea.  I'd never come up with that on my own  :p  So, here's my attempt at making a tulip.  Very simple.  I did use a sponge around the edges of the petals and the foliage.  We will be making this card tonight at my Open House along with 2 more that I might upload later today.  Gotta go and run some errands for now.
Recipe: Stamp set by SU! Kind & Caring Thoughts (hostess set level 3)
Papers: Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, Basic Black, Melon Mambo and Old Olive.
Ink: Basic Black
